The orangutan could be the first great-ape to become extinct if we do not take urgent action. Restore has provided funding to help purchase a lease of 86.450 hectares of rainforest in East Kalimantan where the first rehabilitated orangutans will be released in 2011. In addition Restore has provided funding to the world’s largest orangutan rehabilitation centre in Central Kalimantan. Nyaru Menteng is run by Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation and covers 390 hectares of safe habitat where orangutans are rehabilitated for release and those that cannot be released find a supported habitat on river islands.
